Aisha Aliyu - UX Designer
I go by the name of A-i-s-h-a (pronounced i-sha), Lagos born Londoner, shoe aficionado (well over 200 pairs), anime fan, avid weight lifter, gamer (consoles please), tech-enthusiast, lover of Spanish (the language) and fashion. I was also known as the accidental UXer. Many moons ago, a lecture in one of my undergraduate years made me come to the realisation that I had been practising user experience for years without knowing it. This led me to pursue formal training in it, bagging a Master’s in Human-Centred Systems from City University, London. Prior to joining ClearBank, I worked at a full-service agency for pharmaceutical and medical device companies. I also ran my own boutique design agency working with clients that cut across a number of industries including oil & gas, fashion, non-profit, food, real estate, government bodies and more. These days I am applying my diverse skill sets as a UX Designer at the Bank.
Can you tell us a little bit about Front-End at ClearBank?
The front-end team or as we like to call it FEFE, is one of the unique teams at ClearBank. Our team can be described as the Bank’s own digital agency where we can build anything from product start to finish. We’ve got full-stack, mobile, UI, UX, and we can even do print. We work closely with the business to build products for our internal users and customers. We essentially work with some really clever people across the business to build awesome things.
What excites you most about your role?
There are several aspects to UX that I enjoy, but the one I love the most is building/prototyping stuff! The more interactive and realistic the better! It’s always an awesome feeling to help build things, and it’s even better when you see it in use solving a problem or fulfilling a need. That and the fact that there is never really a dull day in my team.
What’s the highlight of your week?
User testing a product and seeing those metrics go up! Yes I know, total UXer, but it really is an amazing feeling, when you see your work paying off with metrics to match.
What has surprised you most about working at ClearBank?
The people! So many supportive, lovely people and everyone is really approachable from C-Suite to everyone in between. Also my team lead is the best, I think he’s the best boss I’ve ever worked for bar myself.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
The accidental billionaire
What would be your karaoke song of choice?
Let’s Groove - Earth, Wind & Fire
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Mexico City. It has great weather, great people and awesome food. It also has lower air pollution than London, just need to brush up on my Spanish and adios.
